Christmas 2013
‘Twas the night before
Christmas and all over the hill
Even the teenage girls were
all still.
The neighbors and guests were
snugly indoors
In beds, on the couch, and on
mats on the floors.
And I in my flannel and Diego
in fur
Were seeking a holiday
loneliness cure.
I looked out the window just
to explore
And found myself drawn to the
patio door.
The chimneys were smoking and
all the lights lit
And sometimes the sounds of
laughter would flit
From window to doorway to
sidewalk all round
So I went to the closet and
put on my down.
I wandered the ‘hood and
realized then
That I was completely
surrounded by friends
And for better or worse I was
never alone
With such loving people nearby
in their homes.
I returned to my bungalow
sitting on B
Grateful that I had remembered
to see
Once again how many miracles
abound
Not just at Christmas but all
the year round.
So with contentment, a smile
on my face
I went back to bed glad I
lived in this place
On this lovely hill and in
this funky house
And dreamt that dear Santa
brought me a spouse.
After the carols and toddies
and such
Please know, my dear
neighbors, I love you so much.
I sit writing verses with
tears in my eyes
I really am lucky to have
you, you guys.
May 2014 bring us more of the
stuff
That makes life so joyful and
bumps not so rough.
Merry Christmas, Happy
Kwanzaa, and yes, Joyous Festivus
(I just can’t prevent this)
GREAT LOVE TO THE REST OF US!
